Condors Pres. Jim Perkins Wins Citizen of the Year!

Jim and Shana were extremely honoured to attend the Kanata Chamber of Commerce People’s Choice Awards banquet last night on behalf of the Condors! The Condors were finalists, amongst many other incredible nominees, in the category of “Non-Profit Organzation of the Year.” We wish all the nominees and the winner in that category, the Kanata Food Cupboard, continued success in their efforts to impact our communities for the betterment of all!
Jim also was extremely surprised when it was announced that he had won “Citizen of the Year!” The entire audience was completely encaptured by the story of the development of this team…but even more so by the opportunities that the Condors are having to impact the community at large.
Thanks to each and every volunteer without whom, this program would not exist! Thanks also to each and every Condors family for showing us what true team spirit is!

Condors looking good in new red sweaters!

The Condors got a belated Christmas gift on Saturday with the arrival of their new sweaters including the shiny, new red ones (to complement the tried and true black sweaters that also were given out to the new Condors).

The kids were certainly thrilled to have their new sweaters and looked very “pro” in them, for sure!

The addition of the red sweaters make the Condors even more “tournament ready” and will help facilitate more East vs. West scrimmages to come.

Go to the Pictures page for more photos of the Condors sporting their new digs!

(apologies for the poor quality of the West pictures as all I had available was my tablet camera and it’s not too great with moving images)

CONDORS VS PARENTS GAMES IN OTTAWA TODAY!CONDORS PARENTS VS JEUX aujourd’hui à Ottawa!

A great time was had by all as the Condors WEST continued their undefeated streak trouncing the parents and coaches for the 4th year in a row! The Condors EAST also thoroughly enjoyed accomplishing a resounding win over their parents and coaches, setting the pattern for many victories to come in the years ahead!

Special thanks to all the parents, grandparents, and other family members who laced up their skates, dusted off their sticks and joined the Condors on the ice! Our heartfelt sympathies go out to you all in your losses. Thankfully, the Condors are gracious winners and there was much consolation of the opposing goalie happening at parent’s end of the ice!

We all look forward to the next Condors vs Parents game in the Spring! Watch the calendar for details!

Condor’s Bottle Drive!

Saturday, Dec. 3 at 9:15 am, Condors and their families are invited to join us in the Jack Charron arena parking lot to orgnaize ourselves for a bottle drive! Last year, a great time was had by all and it really became a bonding time for players and parents as they walked around neighbourhoods and collected together. I encourage everyone who can, to come on out, but especially those new to the Condors family! If you can come, please send a quick email to Anny Woodward so she can add you to a team!anny.woodward@sympatico.ca

If you can’t make it to next Saturday’s bottle drive, why not do one in your own neighbourhood? We have found that the week following a holiday yields many happy returns! ;o) I have attached a flyer that Darlene Macdonald has put together for us. Feel free to copy it and distribute it to your neighbours the weekend before your bottle drive date! That is an excellent way to advertise the team, and let your neighbours know you’ll be coming. They can even leave their empties on their front step for you if they’re not going to be home!
Hope to see you next Saturday morning at 9:15am!

Bilingual site a “work in progress”Site bilingue est un “work in progress”

You may see some indications on the web site that I am working on making the site operate in both French and English to accommodate all of our families in this bilingual city of Ottawa.

This will be an ongoing process for a bit as I get the various parts of the site translated and reacting to the user’s language preference.

As a show of (meager) progress, this post has been translated using Google Translate so if you click on the language choice list on the left panel, you should be able to see the bilingual content in action.  Future translations will be done by actual humans, so forgive me if Google Translate mangles the French 😉

Web site recovered, still under some construction

The web site was running along nicely and getting more and more functionality and content until I was doing some work trying to make it bilingual for our Francophone families and all of a sudden only the main page was working and I couldn’t figure out how to make it work!

I have had to re-install the software and was able to recover most of the content, however, some of the things like the registration forms and photo galleries will take some more time to recover, so please be patient.

This would also be a good time for me to open the floor for suggestions on what the website needs to make it both a way to give information to those seeking it, as well as a resource for the Condor’s community of athletes, families, and volunteers.

Feel free to let me know at webmaster@capitalcitycondors.org
